Grand Theft Auto:
Liberty City Stories is an action-adventure game set in an open world and played in a third-person perspective. Liberty City’s layout is largely similar to Grand Theft Auto III, but it also incorporates elements found in Grand Theft Auto III’s successors, such as more interior environments, changing clothes and motorbikes. While flyable planes and helicopters are available in Vice City and San Andreas, flyables cannot be found in Liberty City Stories while helicopters can only be accessed through a certain number of achievements. Consistent with recent Grand Theft Auto games, the player has more flexibility in moving the camera to view the environment (Grand Theft Auto III is significantly limited in this respect). Unlike the previous version of “3D Universe”, Grand Theft Auto:
San Andreas, the protagonist of Liberty City Stories, is incapable of climbing or swimming – exposure to deep water is immediately fatal. The game’s open world as a whole, based on Liberty City’s original setting, is considerably smaller than that of San Andreas.
The PSP version of Liberty City Stories has a multiplayer mode, supporting up to six players via ad-hoc Wi-Fi mode (same region). The game features seven wireless multiplayer game modes, where various character and walker models come from a single player’s avatar. These multiplayer modes have been removed in the PS2 and mobile versions.
